Welcome to the Dakota Dictionary
Online*.
This is a working dictionary database and is
open for comments, corrections, additions to, and
discussions about the material. This database has
been created specifically for community use so the
community is welcome to give feedback on how the
dictionary is working and to make suggestions for
changes and improvements.
To give feedback, there is a link on each page
to the Dictionary
Staff or you can post comments on the Dakota-net
Listserve. Just click on the link below to
subscribe to the listserve.
To begin using the dictionary, click on
Search Database below. This will bring up
two search boxes. The first is for searching in
Dakota to find English translations and the second
box is to search in English for Dakota
translations. To search in Dakota you will need the
Dakota font. You may download
the font below and install it on your computer. You
will also find a link on the search page to the
Font Map that you will need to follow for typing
the entries in Dakota.
If you search for a word that is not found in
the dictionary, you are encouraged to email the
word to the Dictionary
Staff. We will research the word to obtain the
definition for you as well as enter it into the
dictionary.
